Change Your Status

 

  • On your computer, open Gmail.
  • At the top right, next to your status indicator, click Down Down arrow .
  • Choose: Automatic, Do not disturb, or Set as away.

 

Understand Gmail Status

 

 

Green
Status Text: Automatic (Active)
Status Meaning: You're currently on Chat.
Red
Status text: Do not disturb
Status meaning: You turned on Mute or Present.
White
Status text: Away
Status meaning: You aren't connected to the internet or haven't interacted on Chat for more than 15 minutes.

Set a custom status

 

  • On your computer, open Gmail.
  • At the top, from your status indicator, click the Down arrow Down arrow.
  • Click Add a status.
  • Follow the prompt to choose an emoji, write a status message, or end or clear a status.
  • Click Done.

 

Delete a custom status

 

  • On your computer, open Gmail.
  • At the top, from your status indicator, click the Down arrow Down arrow.
  • Click the status to delete.
  • Click .
  • Click Done.
